President: Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett is a partner in the Austin office of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. He joined Fulbright in 2000 and has lived in Austin since 1993. Michael's law practice is focused on intellectual property and particularly patent litigation. He works with clients practicing in many different areas: electrical, semiconductor, imaging, telecommunications, computer hardware, software, mechanical, medical, software, nanotechnology, microfluidics, and chemistry. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Michael worked as a research assistant for The University of Texas Physics Department and as a cooperative engineer at Advanced Micro Devices. Michael is a member of various law associations and is registered to practice in front of the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as district courts in Texas. Vice-President: Darryl J. Adams
Darryl Adams has an extensive background in both law and technology. Mr. Adams' practice focuses on patent litigation with a particular emphasis on the electronics, computers and software. He regularly handles complex disputes involving concurrent proceedings in Federal Courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC) and proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Adams counsels clients on the scope and infringement of patents, and the validity and unenforceablity of patents. He also advises client on patent procurement issues, asset management, trademark issues and trade secrets. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Adams received a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for nine years designing electronic systems. Treasurer: Susan Hightower
Susan Hightower specializes in trademark law with a primary focus on litigation. Susan has a strong background in appellate practice, having worked on several trademark appeals and served as a judicial clerk to Judge Jacques L. Wiener, Jr. of the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. On behalf of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, she co-authored an amicus brief in the case In re Bose and argued as amicus before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Before becoming a lawyer, Susan was a journalist, working for six years as a reporter and editor for The Associated Press. She has a law degree from Stanford, a master’s in journalism from UT, and a bachelor’s degree from Austin College. Susan is a council member of the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section and a member of the International Trademark Association amicus committee. Immediate Past President: Rob L. King Rob King is an in-house intellectual property attorney for Silicon Laboratories in Austin. Rob's practice as an in-house counsel includes technology licensing, drafting and negotiation of commercial transaction agreements, patent portfolio development, intellectual property litigation support, due diligence analysis associated with acquisitions and divestitures, trademark and domain name matters and patent licensing. He is licensed as a patent attorney by the U.S. Patent Office. Rob holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with honors from Texas Tech University and a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law. He is an active member of the Intellectual Property Law section of the State Bar of Texas. He is admitted to practice in the Western and Northern Federal District Courts of Texas, the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
